EARLY EGYPTIAN CIVILIZATION 
Egypt – surrounded by natural barriers like deserts, mountains and seas
Nile River- longest river
-         played an important role in Egyptian’s civilization
-         make fertile lands
-         source of irrigation
-         great transportation system

PHARAOH– “great houses”
-         has absolute power
-         owned lands
-         commanded the army, controlled the irrigation system
-         law maker, dispensed justice
-         tax collector
THEOCRACY – a government in which the ruler is presumed to posses both spiritual or divine power and civil authority

-         developed a system of government to answer the need of controlling the Nile River
-         through intermarriages, the little chiefdoms eventually became divided into two main divisions:
LOWER EGYPT – consisting of the northern part of the Nile Valley including the river’s mouth or delta
UPPER EGYPT – central part of the Nile Valley; extended along the river valley southward from Memphis to Aswan
