- gave the world four religions – Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism: Sikh men wear long bears and turban. It is the mixture of Hindu and Islamic religions. Jainism believed in the sanctity of all life, including plants and animals

Jainism - Religion founded in the 6th century BC as a revolt against Hinduism; emphasizes asceticism and immortality and transmigration of the soul; denies existence of a perfect or supreme being
Buddhism - The teaching of Buddha that life is permeated with suffering caused by desire, that suffering ceases when desire ceases, and that enlightenment obtained through right conduct and wisdom and meditation releases one from desire and suffering and rebirth
Hinduism = The religion of many people in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. A body of religious and philosophical beliefs and cultural practices native to India and based on a caste system; it is characterized by a belief in reincarnation, by a belief in a supreme being of many forms and natures, by the view that opposing theories are aspects of one eternal truth, and by a desire for liberation from earthly evils
- Indian thinkers had already founded several philosophical system, including yoga, the discipline of mind and body by spiritual training
- enriched world literature by giving the first fable (PANCHATANTRA), the first dramatic epics (THE CLAY CART by Sudakra and SAKUNTALA by Kalidasa), the great epic poems (MAHABHARATA AND RAMAYANA), world’s philosophical poem (BHAGAVAD GITA)
- gave the world wonders such as the (1)TAJ MAHAL in Agra, India (2) MOGUL PALACES in New Delhi (3) KAILASHA TEMPLE in Hyderabad
- Classical Indian handicrafts in cloth, wood, metal, ivory and leather
- invented the zero and numerals in mathematics. Later known as Arabic numerals.
- Sterilization of surgical tools was practices. Inoculation- giving shots to prevent diseases were developed for small pox.
